ButcherBox allows for customization with their meat delivery service. The ButcherBox’s that are available are listed below. For this ButcherBox review, I will be sharing my first-hand experience with the ButcherBox All-Beef Box.

The items shown below in each box are last month’s cuts that were sent out and are shown for example purposes only. Your shipment will vary. This is only shown for example.

  • Custom Box – The custom box is completely customizable and you can choose from over 20 different cuts of beef, chicken, and pork. The Custom ButcherBox gives you total and complete control over the meats you will receive.
  • Mixed Box – With the Mixed ButcherBox you will receive a mix of meat that totals anywhere from 8.5-11lbs. The Mixed ButcherBox includes the following meats: 2 lbs of Ground Beef, 2 NY Strip Steaks, 4 Top Sirloin Steaks, 1lb of Whole Pork Tenderloin, and 3lbs of Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast
  • Beef & Pork Box – 2 lbs of Ground Beef, 2 NY Strip Steaks, 4 Top Sirloin Steaks, 4 Boneless Pork Chops, 2 lbs of Whole Pork Tenderloin
  • Beef & Chicken Box – 2 lbs of Ground Beef, 2 NY Strip Steaks, 4 Top Sirloin Steaks, 3lbs of Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast, and 3 lbs of Chicken Drumsticks

My first impressions of ButcherBox

I received my first delivery on Wednesday, May 1st. My order was shipped out the day before, so my first shipment of meat did arrive the next day. I was really happy with the speed of delivery. I could not wait to see what was sent to me in my first box. Opening up this package gave me flashbacks of Xmas morning!

I opened up my first ButcherBox shipment and everything was packed really well. All of my meats were frozen solid and the box was insulated quite well.

What was inside my ButcherBox

Right off the bat, I could see that I did receive one meat that I was really hoping for and that was my chuck roast. I was hoping to make another Mississippi roast next week and the gorgeous hunk of meat that was sent will be absolutely perfect for that dish! The chuck roast that I received in my ButcherBox came in at 36 oz and it will be the perfect size to feed my family. This piece of meat was quite honestly, the most impressive looking beef roast I ever had to pleasure to cook with. I usually get my meat from the grocery store. The grocery store that I shop at has this cut of beef on sale often at buy-one-get-one-free but it never looks as nice as what ButcherBox has to offer!

I also received two 10 oz ribeye steaks, which will be perfect for a special Sunday dinner this week. Ribeye is my favorite steak cut of meat. It is a very simple steak to cook with simple ingredients. I create an herbed ghee mixture and rub it on the meat and cook it for a few minutes per side in a cast iron pan. I cook my steaks medium-rare and I am really thrilled to give ButcherBox’s meat a whirl.

Everything that I received looks completely and totally super duper fresh! I was really impressed with the gorgeous red hue of all the meat and the marbling on everything.

The other cuts of beef that I received in my first ButcherBox were the following: 2 lbs of grass-fed ground beef (in one pound packages), 2 6 oz flat iron steaks, 2 packages of sirloin tips (1 lb packages), and a package of ButcherBox’s very own bacon!

Here is what I did with meat from my ButcherBox

ButcherBox Chuck Roast

For the chuck roast that was sent to me from ButcherBox, I immediately knew what I wanted to create with it… my Paleo Mississippi Roast. This is a really awesome recipe to use with a nice piece of chuck roast meat. The recipe tells you how to create your own ranch seasoning rub for the meat and how to create this set-it-and-forget-it beef dish. The chuck roast that I received from ButcherBox was the best chuck roast I had ever seen. I had the most perfect red hue and great marbling on it. This chuck roast did not have much fat on it and the meat came out extremely juicy and tender!

This ButcherBox chuck roast sure made for one memorable meal with lots of ooo’s and ahh’s at the dinner table!

ButcherBox Ribeye Steaks

Sometimes simplicity is best! For the ButcherBox ribeye steaks, I simply cooked them in a cast iron pan with a bit of oil, salt, and pepper. This was a very easy approach but it results in big flavor and a juicy, unforgettable meal. I served my ButcherBox ribeye alongside some ButcherBox bacon-wrapped asparagus. The ButcherBox bacon was the perfect addition to this paleo, primal meal!

Steak & eggs

Here is another simple way to use your ButcherBox meat. My husband has never had steak and eggs so I decided to serve up this for dinner last week. We call it brinner when we eat breakfast for dinner. It doesn’t get any easier than this folks! To cook the ButcherBox flat-iron steak I simply warmed up some avocado oil (you can use olive oil too) in a cast iron pan and seasoned the steak with some steak seasoning on both sides. I got a nice sear on each side of the steak, let it rest a few minutes, and then sliced and served.

Simply blend these ingredients

  • 1/2 a pint of vanilla Halo Top ice-cream
  • 1/3 cup of unsweetened milk of choice (I used Good Karma)
  • and 1 tablespoon of Unicorn syrup
  • This simple recipe can be doubled if you want a larger sweet treat. This unicorn milkshake recipe will result in one very sweet and tasty milkshake. I topped mine with some sugar-free Cool Whip and rainbow candy sprinkles.

As you can see in the nutrition facts label below this is an indulgent treat. The nutrition facts vary by flavor. The one shown in the photo below is for the Chocolate Caramel Pretzel Crunch flavor. If you give in to your desires and lose control AND eat that whole pint you are going to set yourself back a whopping 710 calories. Might just have to run a marathon to burn that all off. Am I right?

One serving contains 25mg of sugar. If you eat the whole pint you will be consuming a massive amount of sugar, a total of 65mg. As mentioned earlier in this post, these ice cream pints are reserved for a cheat day treat. It is ok to have a sugary treat every now and then. I believe in eating with balance. What I do is eat healthy and clean most of the time and then allow myself to indulge in a not-so-good-for-you treat. I don’t want to deprive myself of the fun things in life (like ice cream).

Gotta say these four limited edition ice cream pints were thoroughly enjoyed by my little family of 3! I truly hope that my Tasty ice cream review inspires you to hunt these down and give them a whirl! I’m going to give some mad props to Tasty for offering up these creative ice cream flavors. I also really enjoyed the delicious creaminess and texture of the ice creams. I am looking forward to Tasty releasing some more ice cream pints. Pretty sure I will be a regular buyer of this brand.

It is so hard to resist eating the entire pint all by your lone self because they are just that good!

My experience with the MengK blender

The first experiment with this high-speed blender was to see how well it would process and blend frozen fruit. I placed two frozen bananas, a cup of frozen dragon fruit, and a bit of milk in the blending cup. I was really excited to try this out because I have not had much success with frozen fruit in any blender I have ever owned.

The capability of blending frozen fruit is top priority to me. I need a blender that can do this.

I turned the blender onto medium with the dial. I then turned it on. The blender was loud and I could tell it had a powerful motor. The blades efficiently chopped up my frozen fruit and blended it up with the almond milk. After a few short moments, I had a delicious smoothie bowl waiting for me.

I performed one other smoothie test with my MengK blender. For that test, I used a fresh banana, frozen dragon fruit, and frozen mango with a splash of some unsweetened nut milk. The blender performed wonderfully and as expected. In a very short time, without any hesitation, I had a delicious, tall smoothie waiting for me!

Overall, I am quite pleased with this MengK blender and I am excited to try more smoothie recipes with it.

How I use CBD in my life – A little bit of my story

For me personally, I choose to use CBD to help with my ongoing battle with anxiety and depression. I have dealt with these problems in life for as long as I can remember. Today I will tell you how I created a Garlicky Greek Caulipower Pizza using a blank Caulipower crust and some Primal Kitchen Greek Vinaigrette. You can adjust this recipe to your taste with the garlic but the amount that is noted in here is for garlic lovers only. This is, believe it or not, my first time ever having a Greek pizza. I love Greek food so I kind of had an idea in my mind that everything would turn out wonderful to me. Guess what? I nailed it and that is why I am sharing this recipe to you for my Greek Caulipower Pizza! This pizza does not contain any meat so it a vegetarian pizza and would be perfect for any veggie lover. Caulipower Crust – The Caulipower Greek Pizza All Starts Here

If you are looking at my post and my photos here and are drooling a bit and craving this Greek Caulipower Pizza then you are going to need your base to start with. This was my second time trying the Caulipower crust. I bought a veggie Caulipower pizza not too long ago and dressed it up with some additional toppings. This time I wanted to be the artist and the chef and create my own on a blank slate. The blank Caulipower crust pack contains two crusts and if you want you can double this recipe so that you have two Greek Caulipower Pizzas. The recipe has enough servings and slices for two people. That is of course unless you have a huge appetite and can eat an entire pizza by yourself.

The Power of the Caulipower

Let’s talk a bit about why I love this Caulipower crust so much.

First of all, it is paleo friendly. If you do not add any cheese this pizza will fulfill your paleo diet needs.

Secondly, we all know that cauliflower crust is all the rage these days because it is low-carb. A cauliflower crust pizza is leaning in the guilt-free direction of things. You can take a peek at the nutrition facts below (source). A serving size is considered 1/3 of the pizza and considering this is pizza it only comes in at 26 grams of carbs (with net carbs it is lower). A regular pizza is at least twice that amount and averages about 36 grams of carbs for just one slice!

And third, this Caulipower crust is nice and crisp! Often times a cauliflower crust can result in sogginess from the moisture that can be found in cauliflower. If you ever make your own crust you really have to squeeze the moisture out. I made my own cauliflower crust last year and while it was good, the texture of it was mushy. I did not get enough of the moisture out. Caulipower takes the frustration out of cauliflower crust. These blank crusts have endless possibilities.

This pizza uses Primal Kitchen’s Greek Marinade/Salad Dressing for the sauce. I am pretty confident that most other greek salad dressings will work for the Greek garlic sauce but Primal Kitchen is the brand that I use because I am a huge fan of all of their products. This dressing is made with only the finest all-natural ingredients. When an item is Whole-30 approved, you know it is going to be a healthy element in your dish.

Garlic! Garlic! And More Garlic!

There. I said it three times so you get the point. This Greek Caulipower Pizza recipe is chock full of garlic. I put three heaping tablespoons of it in the blender with my Primal Kitchen Greek Vinaigrette. When I need minced garlic I skip the knifework and I grab my Spice World Minced Garlic. My knife skills suck if I am going to be honest here and minced garlic can be tricky. I really need to improve in the knife department. Spice World does all of the work for you and they are my go-to brand. They do also have an organic minced garlic available and I often try to use that but my Kroger was out the last time I shopped so I just went with regular.

Bring On The Cheese Please!

A Greek Caulipower Pizza would not be Greek if it was not for the feta cheese! No Greek pizza is complete without feta. For this recipe, I went with a blend of feta and mozzarella. I used one small container of Kroger’s Simple Truth Feta Cheese and I used a handful of Tillamook mozzarella, which is my favorite shredded mozzarella cheese.

Greek Toppings

For the rest of the toppings on this Greek Caulipower Pizza, I used cherry tomatoes, sliced kalamata olives, pepperoncinis, and half of a slivered and sliced shallot. Next time I make a Greek pizza I am going to add some sliced beets to it. I think beets would have been awesome on this pizza, so now you know! You might just want to add them to yours.

Final Thoughts on this Greek Caulipower Pizza recipe

I would love for you to know exactly what came out of my daughter’s mouth when she hesitantly took her first bite of this pizza. I did not think she would agree with it because of the potent taste of feta cheese BUT the first thing she said was,

Wow! Mom! This pizza has sooooooo much flavor!

It does have quite a potent garlic flavor so just scale back a tablespoon if three is too intense for you.

We were both impressed with the crisp texture of this Caulipower Crust! Could it be magic? I do not know how they do it but it sure turns out crisp after 13 minutes baking in the oven! It is very impressive to me that Caulipower has the power to transform cauliflower into a pizza crust that does disappoint. This Caulipower Pizza recipe might just be one of your recipes that are in regular rotation! Love it!

I was curious to see what the lab results were for CBDistellery so I did a little Google searching and did view the lab results report. You can view the report HERE.

My experience with CBD

I am also currently in the process of withdrawing from a benzodiazepine medication that I was prescribed for over 7 years. My taper from the benzo began with Klonopin and I am nearing the end of my taper with Valium. Some days the symptoms are unbearable. I get hit hard with withdrawal symptoms every single time I make a cut to near the end of my benzo taper. I wanted to see if CBD could relieve the worst of the withdrawal symptoms (anxiety and depression) so I gave some products a try from CBDistellery.

Because there are no psychoactive effects of CBD I do not ever feel stoned or high after consuming any CBD product. For me, CBD calms me and balances me out. I use CBD products whenever I feel a hint of depression and anxiety. Shortly after consuming the CBD product I feel an improvement in my mood and I can get back to functioning properly. CBD is a lifesaver for me and I love that it is an all-natural remedy to my health concerns. I do not experience any side-effects after using a CBD product.

Another problem that CBD helps me out with is insomnia. The CBD has proven to be more effective than a melatonin supplement for me. I tend to wake up several times in the middle of the night and CBD helped me get a better quality of sleep. I woke less in the middle of the night when I consumed CBD before bedtime.

First impression of Sun Basket

My first Sun Basket subscription box arrived on-time on a Tuesday morning. This was perfect for me because I was hoping to receive my dinner kit before dinner time on Tuesday. I have ordered other meal kits previously in the past and they came much too late in the day to prepare them that day for our meal and I had to wait until the next day to prep and prepare my dinner.

My Sun Basket box was quite heavy from the ice-pack that was packed inside. The box was insulated well throughout and all of my ingredients were kept cold. When I opened up my first box everything was inside individual meal kit bags and labeled. The meats were kept separate from the fresh produce ingredients, which was great. There were no loose items and everything was super fresh and all of my ingredients looked beautiful. You can tell that Sun Basket takes great pride in the meal kits that they ship out just by looking at the quality of the ingredients.

Giving those meal kits a whirl!

Now I will be discussing each of the three meals and my experience preparing them and devouring them!

Seared Steak w/ Brussels Sprouts & Chipotle Mustard Vinaigrette

This recipe for the seared steak was so easy-peasy! A recipe booklet is provided with your order and I followed all of the directions in the recipe exactly how it was written. The first step was to sear the steak and I did this with my cast iron pan. I love my steak medium-rare so I cooked it only for a few moments on each side and gave it a nice sear.

After the steak was cooked to my liking, I cooked the fresh vegetables that the kit came with. This particular kit came with Brussels sprouts, radishes, shredded cabbage, green onions, and garlic. I used the same cast iron pan that I cooked my steak in to cook the veggies. You do have to provide your own olive oil, salt, and pepper.

And here are a couple images of the final product! I may have cooked my steak rarer than medium-rare but that was fine with me. I love my steaks to be reddish and pink throughout. You will never see me eating a well-done steak that tastes like shoe leather! This meal was fantastic and the Chipotle Mustard Vinaigrette was a very welcomed and nice touch. I never had a sauce like that EVER on my steak. It was a tad bit on the spicy side but not too spicy. I also really enjoyed the warm radishes in this Sun Basket meal. It has never occurred to me to try radishes warm because I always just thought of them as a cold ingredient in a salad. Thanks to Sun Basket I am now inspired to try out warm radishes in other meals that I cook up!

Mediterranean Tomato Braised Cod with Broccoli and Preserved Lemon

This fish dish was so simple to create in the comfort of my own home and this one really packed a punch of gourmet flavor! This Sun Basket meal was exquisite and it tasted like something that a chef would have prepared for me at a fancy restaurant… true story! My family does not eat seafood so I got to hog up this meal all for myself. I did not eat the entire two helpings on my own but I almost did!

Never have I worked with preserved lemon but I know that it is an ingredient often used in Mediterranean cooking. I’m all about trying new things so I was excited and thrilled to give it a whirl. It really brightened up this dish! It gave it some acidity and gave the cod fish that lemony flavor that I adore with my cod.

This meal didn’t take too long to prepare and there was not much prep involved either. I started out with chopping the broccoli into smaller pieces and sauteed it with some olive oil. I did alter this recipe just a bit. Then I added some shallots and minced garlic to complement the broccoli and that proved to be an excellent idea. The most difficult part of the preparation of this Sun Basket meal, for me, was chopping the cod up into smaller pieces. I could really use some nice new professional chef knives. If you have a great set then this part will be simple but my dinky knives had a hard time getting a nice clean slice on the fish so my fish got mangled up just a bit.

This was the third Sun Basket meal that I tried and this was another clear winner in my eyes. This recipe was simple to prepare and cook. The ingredients were all organic and clean and everything added up to a delicious, nutritious meal. I used my cast iron pan to cook the pork and I got a nice orange glaze on it. My daughter loved the pork so much she was asking for seconds.

The apple slaw was an interesting side-dish. I have never had a coleslaw like that before. The slaw dressing was two simple ingredients: apple cider vinegar and honey, and it was already prepared and ready to use so I did not have to do any mixing.

If I had one small complaint about this meal it would have only been the size of the sweet potato provided. My sweet potato was on the small side and the roasted sweet potato with smoked paprika was so delicious we were all wishing for more.

Final thoughts

I was thoroughly impressed with Sun Basket and this is most definitely is a subscription box that I will be subscribing to again in the future. I have tried other meal kits previously and this one really stood out to me with the quality of their recipes. These meals were so simple to create and they were really coming through as having gourmet flavor! What’s better than having a gourmet flavor at home and knowing that you were the one that prepared and created that dish? These meal kits brought out the inner-chef in me.

I love that they have a huge menu to choose from each week with 18 choices. Everything on the menu sounds so wonderful and it is hard to narrow it down because I just wanted to try it all! I also appreciate the fact that Sun Basket has plenty of paleo and gluten-free options.

Today I would like to introduce you to a line of kombucha that was birthed in my home state of Michigan. This kombucha is brought to you by Sacred Springs. I actually ordered all five flavors from Shipt but one flavor was out of stock… boo! I will be honest here, I am a huge sucker for labeling and packaging. If a label draws me in enough I will purchase that product and bring it home with me. I have had my eye on this kombucha for awhile, particularly the Root Of Life bottle with the bearded man. Maybe his eyes mesmerized me? Whatever it was, it worked!

First things first, what is kombucha and why you should try it

Chances are you have heard about kombucha by now. It seems to be all the rage these days in the world of healthy living. Kombucha is a fermented tea (with sugar) that is full of good bacteria for your gut and probiotics. This can all strengthen your immune system, give you energy and focus, and also give you a boost in overall health.

When I first tried kombucha I will always remember it. I had no idea what it was when I bought it. It was GT’S Raspberry Chia and I bought it at Whole Foods. I was sitting out on the patio with my daughter and we gave it a whirl. At first, I was totally turned off by the vinegar-like taste. I just could not drink it. I do believe that like many things in life, kombucha is an acquired taste. I believe that once you get through your first couple of bottles and begin to experience all of the wonderful health benefits, you will be craving a bottle daily. That’s where I’m at right now!

Kalmbucha

The first flavor that I tried out was the one with holy basil. This one is called Kalmbucha. This one was very light tasting and easy to drink for me. There are a lot of kombucha haters out there (I know because I used to be one) and I feel that anyone could enjoy this particular flavor. Holy basil is known to bring balance to your life and even you out. It truly did have a calming effect that swept over me.

Flower of Life

The second kombucha that I went for was the Flower Of Life. This bottle has a beautiful red hue to it, making it somewhat irresistible to me. This drink has a beautiful mix of the following flavors: jasmine flowers, hibiscus, rose hips, elderflowers and elderberries. This one can be best described as a little sweet and a little sour. So if you are into sweet & sour this one might be your jam! I really enjoyed this flavor and I felt great after drinking it.

Root of Life

The third one that I consumed was called Root of Life and this is the one with the label that I was head over heels in love with. This one is infused with a heavy taste of beets and also a blend of ginger and turmeric. When they created this flavor it was akin to winning the lottery. The combination of flavors is just BAM!! If you love beets as much as I do you will really enjoy drinking this one. This one had a ton of fizz to it too, which I love! That’s when I know I have a potent kombucha.

Tzintzer Trifecta

This kombucha is all about the ginger. Ginger is one of those elements that definitely has a zing to it. Ginger is known to have anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, can even out blood sugar, promote weight loss, and is also hydrating. I am a big fan of ginger so this flavor won me over.

FIRST IMPRESSION OF TRUWOMEN PROTEIN BARS

My first impression of TRUWOMEN protein bars was the mind-blowing taste! The first one I reached for just had to be the Daydreaming About Donuts bar because I am donut-crazed and if I can have a healthy option that tastes like junk food but without all the junk ingredients count me in! My favorite thing about the donut bar is hands down that yummy yummy glaze! These really do replicate a delicious donut quite well. I will be daydreaming about this bar from this point forward. This bar would be a great dessert replacement as well.

If glazed donuts are not your jam fear not! TRUWOMEN protein bars comes in a few different flavors and make something for everyone. For all of the cookie lovers out there TRUWOMEN has a Oh Oh Cookie Dough bar, which will have you saying, “dough my goodness”!! The Smother Fudger Peanut Butter bar is an indulgent fudge bar stuffed with a creamy peanut butter filling. Realgood Pizza is really really good! For real!

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog and thank you so much for visiting. I am pleased to announce my very first product review with you today. Please let me know what you think… thoughts and opinions welcome! You can comment below or contact me privately.

If you are caught up in the low carb craze like myself you might be wondering how you can still enjoy foods that are typically loaded up with carbohydrates. The great news is that nowadays there a ton of healthy alternatives available to those leading a low-carb lifestyle.

I think it is safe to say that everyone LOVES pizza! Pizza is a universal food and so versatile. There are so many way to construct a great, tasty one! I discovered Realgood pizza recently and after flipping over the box and analyzing the nutrition facts I was sold! That big black dot that says, “guilt free” was enough to get me on board. Realgood pizzas are high in protein, low in carbohydrates, and grain-free (gluten-free). If you are on a keto diet I highly suggest giving these a whirl.

There are a couple ways to go about making a low carb pizza. There is cauliflower crust and then there is a meat-based crust. I looked over the ingredients and learned that the crust is composed of chicken and Parmesan cheese. The chicken is free of antibiotics and hormones, and since Realgood Foods cares about your health and well-being their pizzas are free of preservatives.

Each large pizza is 7 inches of greatness and has 50 grams of protein and 8 carbs. This size is great for dinner time. There are smaller pizzas available that would be fabulous for a yummy lunch. The smaller pizzas are 5 inches. The large and small pizzas are available in 3 flavors: three cheese, pepperoni, and supreme.

I decided on the supreme pizza because I am a big fan of lots of toppings on my pizza. I baked my Realgood pizza in the oven and the results were wonderful! Realgood suggests leaving the cardboard on the bottom of the pizza and placing it on a baking sheet.

There are some other ways you can heat them up. Realgood recommends taking the pizza out of the oven (removing the cardboard as well) and finishing off in a frying pan for a couple of minutes to crisp up the crust. You can also try them out in an air-fryer (w/o the cardboard) at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes. I do own an air-fryer and I will be trying out this method in the near future. They also suggest grilling your pizzas (without the cardboard) for 6-8 minutes on medium heat.

I am thrilled to see that Realgood Foods also has breakfast pizzas available and enchiladas! Breakfast pizzas are available in three flavors: pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. There are 4 types of enchiladas available: cheese, beef, chicken, and pork.

I tested out the sausage breakfast pizza this morning and I am feeling pretty good about it! This is the kind of fuel I need to get me through the day. The breakfast pizza that I had is made of scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, a cheese sauce, and Italian sausage. Like the lunch/dinner pizzas the crust is also made up of chicken and Parmesan cheese to keep the carbs low. I included a photo of the nutrition facts below and the breakfast pizza is only 4g carbs, 25g of protein, and 280 calories.

I still have yet to try out the Realgood Foods enchiladas. I am pretty positive that my family will enjoy those too. We do love our Mexican food over here!

My final thoughts: I am so glad I gave these a whirl! I have been curious about this brand for quite some time. My family enjoyed the supreme pizza so much we are crossing our fingers that Realgood Foods will release a large, family sized pizza (we shared two 7″ pizzas). When I indulge in a pizza I also love to have some breadsticks available. It would be totally awesome to have those available in the future. I am looking forward to seeing where this brand goes from here. I know they are increasing in popularity and the possibilities are endless on what future products they will carry in their line of foods.
