Welcome to this week’s installment of Friday Faves over here at Give It A Whirl Girl. This week I am sharing my favorite stocking stuffers of 2018 with you. These items are perfect for gift giving for the foodie in your life. Everything here on this gift guide is food and drink related. I love…
Halloween has come and go and now you probably have a gigantic bowl of Halloween candy. Am I right? Are you wondering what you can do with it? I had the most excellent idea to create a leftover Halloween candy pizza with some white chocolate “cheese” drizzled on top. I used Pamela’s Products gluten-free brownie…
The gourmet Candy Shop at Nordstrom has a great variety of gourmet items and I’m going to break it down into my top 10 favorites today in this nifty shopping guide. You’ll feel like a kid in a candy shop while browsing Nordstrom’s big variety of gourmet items! Many of these candies carry a hefty…
Hello friends and readers! On this day I will bring to you more of my top items on my Healthy Hot List. This list contains healthy food and the products that will also help you create them. The healthy foods that I have included in this compiled list are for a variety of diets: gluten-free,…
I would like to start up a new regular feature on the blog featuring items that I have used and fallen in love with. I will be calling this the Healthy Hot List. These are all items that I have given a whirl and want to spread the word about. Many of these items fall within the realms of several different diets: gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, Whole 30, keto, and vegan. Whenever I try out a new product and I become a fan I do my best to promote these items and spread the word about them. I would love my good words for these brands to travel far and wide because they earned it with their quality food products.
If you are local to the Detroit area, chances are you have been to Eastern Market at least once in your life. If you are a foodie like me then chances are you have visited several times. Eastern Market is a bustling area of visitors looking for the best deals on fresh produce, other food items, and flowers. Each and every time you visit Eastern Market it is a different experience because there are different vendors.
Through Groupon, we have also discovered a miraculous place nestled down there in all of the action, DeVries & Company 1887. We regularly purchase Groupons to get some good bargains there and we went equipped with one yesterday to stock up on some unique foods.
Wow gals and guys! Can you believe that in the past 4 1/2 months I have been blogging here at Give It A Whirl Girl and this is a milestone post? 100 posts have been drafted and published as of today! I figured the best way to celebrate my hard work was with a bowl of Balsamic Raspberry & Chocolate Balsamic Fudge Ripple Nice Cream! No champagne bubbles flowing here, just some paleo and (almost vegan… I did use raw honey) nice-cream for my daughter and I to share.
Blogging has just been a fantastic journey and experience for me. I feel blessed that I am able to work from home and combine my passion for cooking, baking, and writing. I am learning new things as the days go by. There is also never a shortage of things to do. I am consistently keeping myself busy and occupied. With blogging, there is always a lot of behind-the-scenes work.
Erma’s Frozen Custard is the place to be if you want some top quality frozen custard and some exciting, fun ways to top it. This place has so many wonderful flavor concoctions it is somewhat overwhelming to decide on just one! Give me two. NO! Give me three! The flavor options here are just mindblowing. This was my first time visiting with my little family of 3 and we each chose our own parfaits. I just had to go with Peanut Butter & Jelly. I really have a thing for PB&J and that is my jam right now. My husband went with the S’mores Parfait. I believe I heard him moaning over just how good it was. And last but not least my daughter, Chloe, went with a Candy Parfait.
If you are a health nut and you also love to indulge a bit in a tasty treat then Skinny Dipped Almonds might just be your go-to snack when you are having a snack attack! I just recently had a chance to sample three different flavors of Skinny Dipped Almonds. I tried out the Dark Chocolate Cocoa, Greek Yogurt Pumpkin Spice, and the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter. Skinny Dipped Almonds come in two additional flavors as well: Dark Chocolate Espresso and Dark Chocolate Raspberry. These three bags of almonds went pretty quick in my home and we all enjoyed these flavors. Consider me a fan for life! I really do need to get my hands on the other flavors.
I recently had the opportunity to try the line of supplements for adult by Good Day Chocolate. You can read more about that HERE. I was so impressed with the quality and effectiveness of these supplements for myself so I figured I should have my daughter, Chloe, give them a whirl! She sure is excited too! I know she was a little jealous when I had my supply for myself. Who doesn’t love chocolate?
The supplements for children are available in four different varieties: Multivitamin, Calm, Probiotic, and Sleep. You can also grab yourself a variety pack for children if you want to try them all.
The great thing about these is that your child will get excited to take their vitamin. Who doesn’t love chocolate?! They are also naturally colored from fruits and vegetables, so no artificial colors here. Also, the chocolate is ethically sourced fair-trade chocolate. One piece of chocolate has 2g of sugar and each piece has approximately 15 calories.
Sorry readers… no recipe here. I really should have taken measurements and gotten out my pen and paper. I still, however, would like to share the details on how I created this scrumptious and healthy-ish bowl of paleo and vegan double chocolate nice-cream! As you can see in the photo below there are three spoons in that little Fiesta bowl fighting for a bite of this frozen treat! I was a little short on ingredients so I worked with what I had and ended up with one lone bowl. Oh well, better than nothing right? If you love chocolate then you are in for a real treat. Continue reading to find out how you can make your own healthy ice-cream at home with a few simple (and affordable) ingredients!
I was given a care package of Enjoy Life Protein bites and I am loving each flavor of these little chocolate morsels. As you may already know, I am a big fan of the Enjoy Life Foods Brand. They create and produce food that is free of common allergens that anyone can eat. You will not find gluten (wheat), dairy, peanuts, soy, egg, tree nuts, among other food allergens in any of their products. You can have peace of mind with this brand because they only use quality ingredients and their products are REAL FOOD. If you are following a gluten-free diet or vegan diet this brand has a ton of great products available to you.
We had an awesome day yesterday full of good eats and great times with family. I got super lucky and won a prize pack from Coleman Naturals on Facebook. I won a variety of organic hotdogs and sausages. As soon as I received my prize pack I knew I had to host a family get-together. I am always looking for an excuse or reason to have people over and cook for them. It brings me a lot of happiness and joy putting a party/family gathering together. Is there really anything better in life than having your good family come together to have a day full of great eats? So we had some hotdogs, sausages, potato salad, macaroni salad, and corn on the cob. It all added up to a scrumptious meal. My sister also brought some side dishes and my mother-in-law brought a fruit tray. We had quite a few healthy foods to eat.
Last night I made a wonderful healthy dinner. We had chicken marinated in Primal Kitchen Honey Mustard and some roasted broccoli. I really wanted a dessert though and then I remembered that I had a bag of Pamela’s Oatmeal Cookie & Bar Mix stored away in the pantry. I am a big fan of Pamela’s line of gluten-free products and I have tried several and have been quite satisfied. It was a first for me, though, making her oatmeal cookies. I doctored up the cookie mix to take it from ordinary to extraordinary. No shame in using a mix to create your baked goodies! This mix was outstanding and the cookies are disappearing quick!
TGIF and welcome to this week’s installment of Friday Faves! Tastemade is a wonderful cooking and lifestyle website that has some unique items in their online shop. They offer free shipping on orders that are $49+. I am really loving the DIY kits that they offer. Those sound like fun projects to do in the Give It A Whirl Girl Kitchen. Here is a list of some of my favorite items in the Tastemade shop. Be sure to check them out because they offer some nice stuff for your kitchen and home. Many of these items would also make great gifts!
It was a great mail day because this fresh new bag of coffee showed up on my doorstep. I ordered the Hologram blend from Counter Culture Coffee on the Nordstrom website, where you can even get free shipping on it! I knew I would love this coffee from the moment I opened up the bag. If happy had a smell to it, it would smell a lot like this Hologram coffee. Once you open the bag and realize how inviting this coffee is you have to brew a pot!
In this post I will discuss how I made a collagen smoothie bowl with cacao, coconut, and granola. Hope you enjoy! One of my favorite Thunderbird Bars is the Cacao + Hemp + Walnut. I am a sucker for anything chocolate and this bar wins me over big time! This bar is paleo and vegan…
Nordstrom is chock full of gourmet candy that you can treat yourself to or gift to a deserving friend. I truly do believe that these items here would make incredible gifts for family and friends that would be unforgettable and memorable. I curated this list of gourmet candies that are my fave at the moment. Hope you enjoy. It was difficult to choose only ten items for this list because everything in their candy shop looks fascinating. You might need to wipe drool off your screen once you reach the end of this list! Every bit of gourmet candy that Nordstrom sells is top-notch food. You won’t be let down!
Every now and then I come across a product online that intrigues me. I am really interested in learning more about collagen and all of the wonderful benefits of incorporating it into my diet. And then today I came across this Perfect Keto Keto Collagen Chocolate. I had to do a little probing so I could find out more about it. I have heard so many people swear that this gives them a great big boost in overall health and wellbeing.
I have a confession to make. I am addicted to my donut pan! I picked one up last weekend at Mile’s Cake and Candy Supplies in Clinton Township and I am so glad that I did. It is so much fun to work in the kitchen with my daughter making these healthy-ish gluten-free baked donuts….
Good Day Chocolate only uses Fair-Trade certified chocolate in their supplements. It is also vegan-friendly and does not contain any dairy. Their products are not organic but they do promise that they only source premium, Non-GMO ingredients for their products. The coloring on the candy shells is also nothing to worry about because they only use natural coloring to dye the shell. (example: green is spirulina). If you are wondering about calories, the candies are about 70 calories per 4 piece serving which is not too shabby.
We have all heard the expression, “you will feel like a kid in a candy shop” well yesterday I was the kid in the candy shop! Yesterday I came up with the grand idea to visit Roger’s Bulk Candy and Ice-Cream in Eastpointe, MI. As you may already know I often promote a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet. I believe in living your life and having fun every once in a while though. I feel that eating should be all about BALANCE. I regularly opt for healthy meals but sometimes I like to just cut loose and enjoy whatever the heck I want
Welcome back to Friday Faves. This week’s edition will feature some foods that I am dying to try out. Hop on the train to Healthy Town with these nutritious items found on Amazon.
Simple! Healthy! Vegan + paleo friendly “nice” cream! This is naturally sweet and does not contain any added sugars!
It is so simple to whip up your own small batch of ice-cream at home that is healthy and good for you! This ice-cream has the consistency of soft serve and will make about 2-3 servings.
2 sliced and frozen bananas
1 cup Trader Joe’s Just Coconut Chunks
3/4 cup Thai Kitchen full fat coconut milk
1 tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil (I use Nature’s Way coconut oil)
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes (I use Simple Truth organic from Kroger)
1/4 cup sliced almonds (I use Simple Truth organic)
Small handful of Enjoy Life dark chocolate chips or make it a large handful if you love lots of chocolate!
TRUWOMEN bars are made of completely plant based ingredients and they include ingredients like cassava flour, brown rice protein, sunflower oil, roasted almond butter, and they are lightly sweetened with organic cane sugar. No sugar alcohols here because sugar alcohols can cause an upset stomach for many. The great thing about these protein bars is that there is absolutely no chalky aftertaste that you often get with a protein bar. So if you are into clean eating with only clean ingredients TRUWOMEN can come through and deliver the goodness to you!
