About Sugarbush Tavern

We visited the Eastpointe location but this restaurant also has a Chesterfield, MI location and that is where this place originated. They have been serving up their amazing dishes since 1994.

One great thing about Sugarbush Tavern is that they take pride in using items that are local to the state of Michigan.

We pride ourselves in buying local fresh food with a host of made in Michigan products such as Sanders Hot Fudge Sundaes, Traverse City Cherry BBQ Sauce, local Amish raised turkeys, and an amazing selection of local craft beers to name a few. (source)

If you love ribs you might just want to stop in and give theirs a whirl. They have award-winning ribs that were voted best in Macomb County. That is quite an honor, considering how many restaurants there are in the county of Macomb.

Let’s explore the menu and highlight some of the best

I apologize for not having a photo of the burgers here. The complete menu can be viewed online HERE. Sugarbush Tavern is known to offer up some great burgers. They have a 1/2 pound burger on their menu for $7.99. And for all of those low-carbers out there they even offer a low carb burger:

Cooked lo-carb style with no bun, and topped with bacon and
cheddar and served with cottage cheese and tomato slices – 8.99

Another burger that sounds intriguing is the Jack Daniels burger:

Apple & Fennel Chicken Breasts With Hilary’s Eat Well And Some Roasted Broccoli & Shallots

I am using a lot more marinades since I found some healthy alternatives to the usual stuff out there. Hilary’s Eat Well Apple Fennel Dressing/Marinade helped make my chicken breast dinner a masterpiece last night! This dressing only uses real ingredients and it is free from common allergens. I love that this line of products uses only wholesome, organic ingredients. Today I am going to talk mainly about the chicken dinner I created but I will also discuss a salad that I created with this dressing as well. It is a great, versatile ingredient for your next meal.

Hilary’s Eat Well Apple Fennel Dressing/Marinade

I marinated the chicken breast in the Apple Fennel Marinade for a few hours so I could infuse my chicken with this flavor. It might even work better to marinate the chicken overnight. I used my Lodge Cast Iron Grill Pan to cook the chicken breast. I also added some sliced red apples to the pan to grill them up too.

For a side dish I had broccoli and shallots roasting in the oven. Instead of using olive oil, which I normally use, I tried out the Primal Kitchen Extra Virgin Avocado Oil. Great choice there because this broccoli turned out delish.

This dish turned out absolutely wonderful. Even though it is still summer I am getting a hankering for fall flavors. A couple nights ago I made a turkey chili. I am so ready for fall!

This dressing is gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free, egg-free, corn-free, and nut-free. So if you are trying to avoid allergens this is a great product for you. The main ingredient in this dressing is apple cider vinegar, which had many health benefits! It also uses extra virgin olive oil, sunflower oil, dandelion root, fennel, and a few other natural ingredients. There are no unusual, unpronounceable ingredients on the label. When I see a label with weird ingredients I try my best to avoid them. I love that this product keeps it real!

Infuse Your Salad With The Superfood- Hemp Oil

I received a bottle of artisan cold-pressed Hemp Oil from Foods Alive to try out. The wheels in my brain were turning and I came up with a delicious salad dressing. This recipe will give you 2-3 servings of this tasty dressing. So simple to make and it has plenty of health benefits too, so it is a win-win situation!

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of hemp oil (I used Foods Alive)
  • 1/4 cup of white wine vinegar (I used Star Fine Foods)
  • 1 tablespoon of minced garlic (I hate mincing garlic so I use Spice World)
  • A splash of lemon juice (I used DeLallo)

Instructions:

Pour the hemp oil, white wine vinegar, minced garlic, and lemon juice into a bowl. Start whisking until the ingredients are well incorporated. I let my dressing sit in the refrigerator for a few hours so the flavors would be infused more.

How I created my salad

I am a really big fan of Kroger’s Simple Truth line of prewashed, organic salad mixes. They are my absolute favorite to work with. I used a mix of their Power Greens and Spring Mix. I used Perdue grilled chicken along with a variety of peppers (green, red, orange, and yellow), and I also used some sliced red onion. Oh gosh and how could I forget the pepperoncini??!  This was my first time using them in a salad like this. I usually like to include them in my cold pasta salads. It all came together wonderfully with the hemp oil dressing that I created. If it is worthy of a blog post then I can assure you that it is great!
