Yasso Frozen Yogurt – Party Animal

While browsing the frozen treat aisle at Meijer the pint of Yasso Party Animal frozen yogurt was like screaming my name… Kimmy! Kimmy! Get over here and get down and party with me! So I had no choice but to grab a pint, take it home, plop down and give it a whirl!

Yasso Frozen Yogurt – Party Animal

Yasso ice-cream pints come in 8 tasty flavors:

  • Best Of Both Swirlds – This pint is chocolate frozen Greek yogurt and
    vanilla-flavored frozen Greek yogurt
  • Caramel Pretzel Mania – This pint is sea salt caramel frozen Greek yogurt with pieces of chocolate-covered pretzels and a caramel swirl
  • Chocolate PB & Yay – This pint is chocolate frozen Greek yogurt with a
peanut butter swirl and peanut butter chips
  • Coffee Brownie Break – This pint is coffee frozen Greek yogurt with
chunks of brownie and crushed cookies
  • Loco Coco Caramel – This pint is toasted coconut-flavored frozen Greek yogurt
with a caramel swirl and chocolate-flavored chips
  • Mint Champion Chip – This pint is mint frozen Greek yogurt with chocolate-flavored chips
  • Party Animal – This pint is cake-flavored frozen Greek yogurt
with rainbow sprinkles and chunks of cake
  • Rolling In The Dough – This pint is vanilla-flavored frozen Greek yogurt with
chocolate-flavored chips and pieces of cookie dough

And if you are a fan of ice-cream bars great news for you~ Yasso has a collection of 16 different flavors of their ice cream bars! I snazzed my bar up a bit with a chocolate shell and rainbow sprinkles. I felt that because the bar was only 100 calories I had a little wiggle room to take it to the next level.

To make a chocolate shell for your froyo bar, simply just melt a bit of chocolate chips in a bowl with a tiny bit of coconut oil. Microwave it in 20-second increments and stir until the chocolate is melted down to a liquid.  Then pour it onto your bar and add sprinkles if your sweet tooth is telling you to do so!

The Yasso ice-cream pints are chock full of protein (24g per pint) but they also do not have that chalky aftertaste that other protein products contain. Yasso keeps that protein discrete but packs it in.  Yasso is also lower in calories vs regular ice-cream. Let’s use Party Animal as an example here: 130 calories in a half cup serving.

You will fall in love with Yasso’s creamy texture. They use only high-quality Greek yogurt. Yasso is a healthier alternative to other ice-creams on the market but you would never even know that it is healthier for you when you are eating it. How cool is that? In the summer I often like to indulge in something cold and refreshing. I can not think of a better way to curb that craving. I feel no guilt eating Yasso and I also feel great about serving it to my daughter. Chloe is 8 years old and loves this product. So there you have it~ kid-friendly too!

I created a sundae with my Party Animal froyo. I topped it a with a sugar-free marshmallow topping, added a bit of candy-coated chocolate, some fun little-frosted animal crackers, and a maraschino cherry on top. My daughter said this sundae was the best she ever had and she really enjoyed it with the fun toppings!

Yasso Frozen Yogurt - Party Animal

Yasso Frozen Yogurt – Party Animal

My family loves this line of frozen yogurt products and we are really looking forward to trying out all of the other flavors available. I feel that the only drawback to this is the sugar content. A half-cup of the Party Animal has 16 grams of sugar. We have been enjoying the Enlightened and Halo Top ice-cream pints and their product will only set you back about 5-6 grams of sugar. So while this frozen yogurt is a wonderful, tasty treat I do not want to overindulge too often due to the sugar content. There is still that major plus side to this product though with the low-calorie content.

Wondering where you can grab a few of these frozen treats?? Never fear the store locator is here!  CLICK HERE to find out where you can stock up! If you can not find them in your area, spread the word by printing out this REQUEST FORM and turn it in to your store manager.

You can discover more about Yasso on their social media channels.

What flavor of Yasso will you try out first?

Will you pick up a pint or will you give the bars a whirl?

Disclaimer: I received coupons to try out these products. All opinions are my own.

Almond Joy (Coconut, Chocolate, and Almonds) Smoothie Bowl – RECIPE

36251063_10156448071879420_6676502442311417856_n.jpg

I love to start my day with a nutritious and filling breakfast. This one is naturally sweetened and has no added sugar. If you love the Almond Joy chocolate bar you gotta give this smoothie bowl a whirl! This a great, healthier alternative.

Ingredients:

  • 2 sliced and frozen bananas
  • 1 cup Trader Joe’s Just Coconut Chunks
  • 3/4 cup Thai Kitchen full fat coconut milk
  • 1 tablespoon of extra virgin coconut oil (I use Nature’s Way coconut oil)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes (I use Simple Truth organic from Kroger)
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds (I use Simple Truth organic)
  • Small handful of Enjoy Life dark chocolate chips or make it a large handful if you love lots of chocolate!

Recipe:

  1. Place the 2 frozen bananas, coconut chunks , and coconut milk into the blender. Blend on smoothie mode until ingredients are well blended. Add more coconut milk if necessary.
  2. In a saute pan melt down the coconut oil. Place the coconut flakes in the pan once the coconut is melted. Use a medium heat setting for this. Continue to warm up the flakes until they are nicely toasted and have a golden color.
  3. Remove the banana and coconut mixture from the blender cup and place in a bowl.
  4. Top your smoothie bowl with the toasted coconut flakes, slivered almonds, and the chocolate chips.
  5. Enjoy your Almond Joy smoothie bowl without too much guilt! Makes 1-2 servings so you can enjoy it all by your sweet self or share with a loved one.

Simple Red Raspberry Wine Dessert Sauce – RECIPE

36229585_10156445555439420_4779527245796474880_n
I made this red raspberry wine dessert sauce on a whim last night. It paired so nicely with my my Revele white chocolate raspberry gelato. The recipe to whip up this awesome sauce is so simple and easy. Also there are no added sugars in this sauce. The raw honey will naturally sweeten the sauce.

Ingredients used:

  • 1 pint of raspberries
  • 2 tablespoons of a red wine. For best results use a sweet red or a raspberry dessert wine. I used Sandhill Crane Vineyards Rhapsody in Red
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey. I used Madhava.
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.
  1. Wash your raspberries and place them in a small saucepan on medium-high heat along with the wine, honey, and lemon juice
  2. Stir the mixture frequently and bring to a low boil.
  3. I used a wooden spoon to mash the raspberries up a bit as they were warmed
  4. Once the mixture has been boiling, continue stirring until the sauce thickens. I stirred for apx 5 minutes
  5. Take the saucepan off the burner and allow to cool for a bit and then place it in the refrigerator allowing it to cool for at least one hour.
  6. Enjoy your raspberry sauce on top of your favorite ice-cream, frozen yogurt, or gelato.

This raspberry gelato goes together well with some chunks of white chocolate. I love to use a high quality chocolate in my recipes and you can never go wrong with Valrhona chocolate. White chocolate and raspberry are most definitely a match made in heaven. If Valrhona is not in your budget I love the white chocolate bar from Green & Black’s.  I take about one quarter of the bar and chop it up into chunks with a knife.

35882964 10156435406849420 5852268591524610048 n - Amped Up Grilled Cheese RECIPE With Dave's Killer Bread & Tomato Soup

Amped Up Grilled Cheese RECIPE With Dave’s Killer Bread & Tomato Soup

I know… I know… she’s lost her mind writing her first recipe about a grilled cheese and tomato soup BUT I just had to. It’s a hot day here in Michigan. I was hungry. I had a craving. It may not even be a recipe but more like a fabulous insider tip on how to maximize the taste of your meal. Check out what I did with a loaf of Dave’s Killer Bread and some Annie’s Organic Tomato Soup!

35972726_10156435405929420_8875746403347857408_n

I don’t usually purchase loaves of bread (been trying to keep the carbs down low) but Dave’s Killer Bread is the most beautiful bread I have every laid my eyes upon. Seriously… bread… beautiful??? Trust me on this guys. I am also a firm believer in #noboringgrilledcheese. I made up that hashtag by the way. I can’t use a boring white loaf of bread and that plastic-like American cheese. I guess I am a grilled cheese snob. Call me what you will!

I went with the 21 Whole Grains & Seeds loaf. Dave’s Killer Bread uses all organic ingredients. This particular loaf has 5 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, omega 3s, and a huge assortment of whole grains all jam packed into one slice.

I started out by brushing a bit of some melted Organic Valley ghee (it is a clarified butter) onto the bread. I mixed in a bit of garlic powder and Italian seasonings into the melted ghee to pump up the flavor of the bread. Who doesn’t love garlic bread?

I then laid on a couple slices of Sargento Tomato & Basil Jack cheese. I really love the Italian flavors of this cheese. Perfect to go with my garlic bread that I just whipped up.

Got my grilled cheese all prepped and ready to go. I spray my pan with some Simple Truth Extra Virgin Organic Olive Oil.

Now it is time to warm up with Annie’s Organic Creamy Tomato And Bunny Pasta soup. I doctored this soup up by grinding up some garlic salt and peppercorns into it, along with some Italian seasonings and crushed red pepper flakes. This soup is great on its own but I like to add my own little twist to it.

You will want to set your burner on medium and warm the grilled cheese up for a few minutes. Make sure you flip it too so both sides get that golden touch to it. You will know when the grilled cheese is done. It has to be nice and melty. I don’t do anything fancy at this point. It really is no different than warming up a plain grilled cheese.

Now it is time to plate your grilled cheese masterpiece and scarf it down. I really should have slowed down while eating this and savored it more but it was just so damn tasty. Oh and don’t forget to dip that amped up sandwich into your creamy tomato soup. Enjoy this for lunch or dinner and I do believe this would be super kid-friendly, especially with that adorable bunny pasta in the soup.

I would like to know how do you prepare your grilled cheese at home? Do you have any secret recipe you would like to share? Is there a special bread that you enjoy? Let me know in the comments.

Why You Should Give It A Whirl TODAY

I was not always this way. I created a lot of routines in my life and my life was beginning to feel so mediocre. Today I live life for the experience of trying out new and different things. I would definitely slap the label of “foodie” right across my forehead. I am in a committed relationship with food. Trying out new foods injects a ton of happiness and joy into my life.

49559c5c4a06a4bbf0c27db15b76771e--new-food-choose-happiness

What is a foodie?

A foodie is a person who is very passionate about food. It is more than just having a love for food. It is about the experience of savoring unique flavors and exploring what the world has to offer. Every single day new foods are hitting the market. On each of those days I am scouring the web and admiring them and wishing I could just get them down into my belly! A foodie has a strong, genuine interest in food and experiencing food is a hobby to them. There really are no requirements to being a foodie. There are several definitions of what it takes to be a foodie online but I feel that if you have that passion and desire about food then that is all that it takes to be a foodie.

Why is it important to try new things?

Trying out new foods is beneficial in so many ways. You approach food with an open mind, and they do say that variety is the spice of life! Doing so breaks you out of a rut. When I first began cooking I would make the same recipes over and over: spaghetti, chili, chicken noodle soup, vegetable soup, chicken Parmesan, etc. I picked up some cookbooks for myself and explored different recipes and cuisines. I think my family was nervous at first when I began venturing into these new meals. We just did not know what to expect. You never really do know what to expect and that is the beauty of it!

Even my 8 year-old daughter, Chloe, is on-board with food exploration. She may be 8 but she is not a picky eater. I am so glad that she eats with an open mind. She comes along on our dining adventures and explores different cuisines with us. I was nothing like that when I was a child. I think it is really neat that she is brave when it comes to food.

27625212_10156072154179420_7199035568848315263_o

When you try out new foods you overcome a fear. We always pose the question of, “what if I do not like it” and “what if it is gross”. You really will not know unless you get adventurous and allow your taste buds to be the judge. When you hold back and deprive yourself you are only creating a roadblock. So cook that new recipe. Take your family out to dinner at a restaurant you have never stepped foot in. My family enjoys seeking out a new dining experience often. We are always down for the challenge of a new experience. We have discovered many interesting places to dine at when we have an open mind about it. If you do go to a restaurant that you are a regular of, don’t order the same cheeseburger you have ordered a bazillion times. Challenge yourself and say, “I’m going to try this today”. I have done this so many times and have very few regrets. It does not always agree with me but I often am glad that I took the plunge and had a new taste experience.

What’s for dinner tonight?

I use Kroger’s ClickList and I work on my shopping list all week. I use Pinterest for dinner inspiration. I created a board there and add interesting dinner recipes and snack/dessert recipes to my board whenever I come across something that I think my family would enjoy. I don’t often repeat recipes and seek out new ones to try each week. While I am adding items to my shopping cart I explore different brands.

Did you know that you can actually write to a company and inquire about free samples or coupons? That sort of lessens the fear of being bold and trying new things. If you can get a freebie or a discount coupon at least you are not out the full cost of the product. I have become a repeat customer of several different brands after requesting a sample or coupon from them. Every week when I am working on my shopping list I’m cruising around and tossing new foods into my cart.

So now it is question time!

What is the most adventurous food you have ever tried?

I will answer first. I recently had the pleasure of trying pho at Minh Chau that had tripe (stomach lining) and tendon in it. It also had sliced beef, brisket, and meatballs in it. It was hands down one of the greatest soups I have ever had in my life!

Let me know in the comments how adventurous you are. I am so curious to hear about your experience!

Realgood Pizza is really really good! For real!

Hello everyone! Welcome to my blog and thank you so much for visiting. I am pleased to announce my very first product review with you today. Please let me know what you think… thoughts and opinions welcome! You can comment below or contact me privately.

If you are caught up in the low carb craze like myself you might be wondering how you can still enjoy foods that are typically loaded up with carbohydrates. The great news is that nowadays there a ton of healthy alternatives available to those leading a low-carb lifestyle.

I think it is safe to say that everyone LOVES pizza! Pizza is a universal food and so versatile. There are so many way to construct a great, tasty one! I discovered Realgood pizza recently and after flipping over the box and analyzing the nutrition facts I was sold! That big black dot that says, “guilt free” was enough to get me on board. Realgood pizzas are high in protein, low in carbohydrates, and grain-free (gluten-free). If you are on a keto diet I highly suggest giving these a whirl.

There are a couple ways to go about making a low carb pizza. There is cauliflower crust and then there is a meat-based crust. I looked over the ingredients and learned that the crust is composed of chicken and Parmesan cheese. The chicken is free of antibiotics and hormones, and since Realgood Foods cares about your health and well-being their pizzas are free of preservatives.

Each large pizza is 7 inches of greatness and has 50 grams of protein and 8 carbs. This size is great for dinner time. There are smaller pizzas available that would be fabulous for a yummy lunch. The smaller pizzas are 5 inches. The large and small pizzas are available in 3 flavors: three cheese, pepperoni, and supreme.

I decided on the supreme pizza because I am a big fan of lots of toppings on my pizza. I baked my Realgood pizza in the oven and the results were wonderful! Realgood suggests leaving the cardboard on the bottom of the pizza and placing it on a baking sheet.

There are some other ways you can heat them up. Realgood recommends taking the pizza out of the oven (removing the cardboard as well) and finishing off in a frying pan for a couple of minutes to crisp up the crust. You can also try them out in an air-fryer (w/o the cardboard) at 350 degrees for 12-14 minutes. I do own an air-fryer and I will be trying out this method in the near future. They also suggest grilling your pizzas (without the cardboard) for 6-8 minutes on medium heat.

I am thrilled to see that Realgood Foods also has breakfast pizzas available and enchiladas! Breakfast pizzas are available in three flavors: pepperoni, sausage, and bacon. There are 4 types of enchiladas available: cheese, beef, chicken, and pork.

I tested out the sausage breakfast pizza this morning and I am feeling pretty good about it! This is the kind of fuel I need to get me through the day. The breakfast pizza that I had is made of scrambled eggs, mozzarella cheese, a cheese sauce, and Italian sausage. Like the lunch/dinner pizzas the crust is also made up of chicken and Parmesan cheese to keep the carbs low. I included a photo of the nutrition facts below and the breakfast pizza is only 4g carbs, 25g of protein, and 280 calories.

I still have yet to try out the Realgood Foods enchiladas. I am pretty positive that my family will enjoy those too. We do love our Mexican food over here!

My final thoughts: I am so glad I gave these a whirl! I have been curious about this brand for quite some time. My family enjoyed the supreme pizza so much we are crossing our fingers that Realgood Foods will release a large, family sized pizza (we shared two 7″ pizzas). When I indulge in a pizza I also love to have some breadsticks available. It would be totally awesome to have those available in the future. I am looking forward to seeing where this brand goes from here. I know they are increasing in popularity and the possibilities are endless on what future products they will carry in their line of foods.

So where can you find Realgood foods?

  • You can order them online and have them shipped to your home
  • Kroger stores
  • Walmart stores
  • various health food stores

Since I am always looking out for an awesome deal I found an Ibotta deal on Realgood Foods. You can redeem this up to 10x per receipt and get a rebate of $2 for each item!

Deal scenarios at Kroger:

Showcasing a little bit of my cooking skills

I figured that showcasing my cooking skills would be another great way to introduce myself here and what I am most passionate about. This is a part of the day that I often look forward to. I really do get so much happiness and joy cooking for my little family of 3. In my kitchen it is a new adventure every single day. I am always seeking out new recipes to crank out so we can have a taste of some new concoctions here. As you may already know I love to try out new things, hence the name~ Give It A Whirl Girl!

I have been cooking for a few years now but I really did not fall in love with it until last year when I began my weight loss journey. For awhile there pretty much anything passed as a meal… processed foods, loads of carbs, etc. I started falling into the trap of blaming my medication for weight gain. Until I changed my eating habits I realized I was dead wrong. I was the one to blame for my weight gain. I had been a skinny girl my whole life and when I plumped up I felt like I was in a foreign body of some sort. I realized I needed to make changes and amp up my recipes to pave the way for a healthier lifestyle.

As mentioned in my previous post I stated that I started out on a Mediterranean diet. It really did work and I saw results! I dropped quite a bit of weight but I will be honest that I got bored with the cuisine after while and needed something new.

I started looking into paleo (no grains, beans, soy, dairy, certain vegetable oils, and refined sugar). What I was left with was meats, fish, nuts, fruits, vegetables, and seeds. I was never strict with paleo and just tried my best to be as paleo-ish as possible.

I also ventured into the world of grain-free paleo baking and nice-cream. I love paleo desserts so much and they satisfy my sweet tooth in a healthier way every single time I whip them up. I am aware that they are not totally healthier… keyword is “healthier” for you! Life just isn’t worth living if you can’t have a tasty dessert every now and then. I live for the sweets!

Oooooh and let’s not forget Cheat Days! There are plenty of those around here when I just stuff my face with whatever my brain desires! I believe that life should be balanced. There is no way in hell I could ever be strict.

Hoping you will stick around to see what I am capable of. I am having a very productive day and filling up my Erin Condren planner with all sorts of ideas for future posts. I have so much to learn and I really want nothing more than for this blog to be a great resource and an exciting spot to visit. I look forward to engaging with my new readers. Thank you to all for being a part of my dream.

I am Kimmy Ripley “believe it or not”!

Hello and welcome to my brand spankin’ new blog! I have been putting off doing this for quite awhile because it seems like a daunting task to get it started. I honestly have no idea how to start a blog BUT I am “giving it a whirl”!

I am Kimmy Ripley. I am currently 37 years old. I am happily married to Joe. We have been together happily since 1999. We have one daughter, Chloe Pearl, who is my dream girl. All my life I wanted a daughter named Chloe and now I have her in my life. Let me tell you… this girl is sweet as sugar. She makes everyday worth living and she brings me so much happiness even on the darkest days.  I am blessed to have my family of 3 and everyday is a new adventure for us!

A little bit about me…

I graduated from Wayne State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. I wanted to be a photographer so bad. Once I got a taste of working in a studio it hit me over the head that it just was not for me. Photography is still a passion of mine but for the most part I have sadly dropped out of the art scene.

In 2009 my daughter was born and that is when my entire life changed! I got a new career and that was raising her as a stay at home mom. It is what has worked out for the best for our family.

** My Pearl Girl!

Once she was born and started to eat solid foods I realized that something needed to change in my life. I needed to learn how to COOK! I used to think that throwing a jar of Ragu pasta sauce over a box of spaghetti noodles was cooking lol! When my daughter started eating those solids I wanted to do what was best for her and I prepared most of her foods for her myself. I rarely used any prepared baby or toddler foods. This is when my journey and passion for cooking began.

I started scouring the internet for tasty and nutritious recipes. I started checking labels on foods more to see if I wanted to feed those weird ingredients to my family. I became a lot more aware of what was healthy.

Last year I began my weight loss journey with a mostly Mediterranean diet. I introduced many interesting meals to my family and I was so pleased that they enjoyed them. In the end I started going more paleo with my diet. I am not strict paleo so I am just paleo-ish. I try my best to avoid processed foods and feed them more whole foods and organics. We still have plenty of cheat moments because hey… who doesn’t love an indulgent treat like a deep friend peanut butter and jelly?!?@!

The content of this blog will contain the following topics for now:

  1. My passion for cooking! I try to cook new recipes as often as I can. Sometimes I get brave and create my own dish without a recipe.
  2. My journey of trying out new foods and beverages. I am telling you that I live for trying out new products. Total foodie right over here. Food is completely on my mind all day long.
  3. My new adventure with coupons and sampling because who doesn’t love a great deal? Am I right?

I am sure that over time things will change with my blog as it experiences growth. I would also love to host giveaways on my blog because I enjoy them too! I have discovered a vast array of new products by entering giveaways. I end up being a fan for life and new customer to these brands that I get lucky enough to win from.

Thank you so much for taking the time to stumble on over to my first post that I was nervous to whip up and then hit publish on! Anyone want to hold my hand LOL! This is a big step in my life. My goal and resolution for the year was to start up this blog and try my best to keep up with it. Being a SAHM during the day while everyone is away gets lonely and I am hoping to connect with people along the way. Thank you again for stopping by. I really truly appreciate any new fans I acquire here!
